This is for Julianne

During storyline with Julianne today, everyone had different "listening" poses.

Nick sitting on Max

Chris and Andrew napping

Allison relaxing and listening

And Molly was sitting next to Julianne. What a focused group! But, we all enjoyed the 8 pages we read and had some great conversation afterwards :)

A (very funny) explanation email I received from Julianne in 2012 and forgot to post :)

So here goes! I'm sure you'll all find this very amusing. I found the old email today and was cracking up. Thanks Julianne, for all the smiles you've brought to my life! :)

> Once upon a time, Molly was in driver's ed.  Being the supportive friend and obsessive quote collector that she is, Julianne looked up some quotes on driving and gave the compilation to Molly.  Later, she found that she had missed one.  Smoothly keeping things under control, she wrote it on a different piece of paper and stuck it on Molly's wall.  It was as follows:
>
> "I put a new engine in my car, but forgot to take the old one out.  Now my car goes 500 miles per hour.  The harmonica sounds amazing."
> -Stephen Wright
>
> For some unexplainable reason, Julianne found this amusing.  A bit random, perhaps, but she didn't think that Molly would have a problem with that.  After all, Molly Owl City's biggest fan.  Despite Julianne's assurance, though, Molly did wonder what sort of crazy talk Julianne was pasting to her wall.  (She didn't say it quite like that, of course, because Molly is a very kind person.)  Julianne had just sat down to write an explanation explaining that she was unable to answer Molly's question because she is not an auto mechanic, when she thought better of it and decided to look at her quote app instead.  It was a good decision, for which the part of the world that enters Molly's room will forever be grateful.  She found this quote:
>
> "I play the harmonica.  The only way I can play is if I get my car going really fast, and stick it out the window."
> -(our old friend)  Stephen Wright.

Quiz January 2014

In the pews waiting for Awards Ceremony to start
Add caption
Then we decided we needed a serious picture of the team. This is what we ended up with.
Rob came into the Sanctuary and wanted to be in the picture too so we have another one... this is actually the complete Team Lapeer #13 (at Hillsdale)
Max's Individual Finals Awards - he got 3rd!!! He also got 1 quiz out and 1 quote ribbon. I got to watch the scorekeeper on his finals round. It was pretty cool! I need to become a score keeper (and a Quiz Master someday!!!)
Allison's Individual Finals Awards - she got 2nd. She also got 1 quiz out and 1 quote ribbon. I didn't make it to Individual finals this month. It wasn't such a great month in terms of familiarity with the material.
Our team did better than we thought we had done - we placed 2nd in Senior Teen Vet A Division. I got 2 quote ribbons, one for this month and one for the month I wasn't there, October, Matthew 1-5.
It was a great Quiz overall and we all had fun :) Can't wait for next month!

Dissecting a Flower

In Biology the other day we dissected a flower. Here are some photos I took:

The flower that I dissected was one of these pink ones. It didn't seem to have any Sepals, which was a little bit odd. But, they may have been directly attached to the base of the flower in a way that we couldn't see them.

Didn't really do much to the petals...

After the petals were off, I was able to see the inside of the flower.

The first parts that I dissected were the Stamens. They had liquid inside. They support the pollen.

The above is what they look like when they haven't been dissected.

This was cool - got to see inside the "fruit" part of the flower to see the cells that would become seeds.
