Thanksgiving

I am thankful for... Jesus, for saving me. God, for giving me life. Eternal life! My amazing family - Mama, Daddy, and Max, and of course, our little dog Toto :) I am thankful for all my great friends! I am thankful that I live in a free country with a house, food, and clean water. I am thankful for freedom of speech. I am thankful for a voice to sing God's praise, hands to play for Him on the guitar and piano. I am thankful for my church, pastors, and church family. I am thankful for the opportunity to do robotics to the glory of God. In the Psalms many times it says "give thanks to the Lord, for He is good." I am thankful that we serve a good, loving God. Happy thanksgiving everyone!

The conversation prob went like this:
"Kitty! Don't you know that those clothes were clean?"
"Of course I knew it was clean. You think I would sleep on dirty laundry?"

...and I am a dog. (A dog's only good excuse for most things he/she does)

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself... and spiders.

God is like... duck tape

Decided that I want to start a blogging series called God is like... _________. The first will be duck tape :) And if you have ideas for others, let me know!

God is like duck tape.

When you are using something (for this example I will use a baseball bat) and it breaks, duck tape is a typical  thing to turn to. The baseball bat is taped back together and used, trusting that the duck tape will hold it together. Before it was ever broken, there was no thought that it might break.

Our lives are like that baseball bat. When we have it all together, we often don't ever think about the possibility that we might break. But once we break, we need something to fix us. When God fixes us, and puts us back together, we are trusting Him to keep us together.

Only once we are broken do we realize that we need someone to hold us together. God is the only one that can. That's why there is beauty in brokenness. It's not the break that is beautiful, it is the trust that is required for God to hold us together. He is the duck tape to fix our broken lives :)

What should the next post in this series be?

You know you're from Michigan if...

(even though I might have posted some of these before, thought they were funny :)

Your local Dairy Queen is closed from November through March.

You know it's possible to live in a  thumb.

You live in The only place in the world can you experience all four seasons in one day.

"Vacation" means going to Cedar Point.

You know how to play (and pronounce) Euchre.

You've had to switch on the heat and the air conditioning in the same day.

Your little league game was snowed out.

Your year has two seasons: Winter and Construction.

Driving in the winter is better because the pot-holes are filled with snow.

Shoveling the driveway constitutes a great upper body workout.

Your definition of a small Michigan town is one that doesn't have a lake.

Election thoughts...

Everyone and everything seems to be talking about the recent election. How they are not happy that their candidate lost, or how Obama may be making changes in the future, or how this proposal passed and that one didn't. It is a blessing to live in a democracy where our opinion matters, and where the people get a say in who governs them.

But I think we often overlook a small fact. The person who truly leads us never goes up for election. He never campaigns and calls you over and over. He simply is always our leader, and it's a good thing. Without God in charge, this country would be, in short, a mess.

I don't think God is sitting up in Heaven now, wringing His hands, and saying "oh my goodness. Obama won. What am I ever going to do? The plan is ruined!". I'm sure that God is bigger than that, and we know that in all things He works for the good of those who love Him. And I don't think we need to fret either. God's got it all covered!

Think about how great it is that God never has to be reelected. If the ballot said "Leader: God, Molly, Billy Ray Cyrus, Eric Clapton, Barack Obama, Mitt Romney, and everybody else who wants to rule. Who do you vote for?"

What if someone other than God got elected? Personally, I know that this country, world, and universe would be a mess if I was the leader.

Today I am thankful not only for the fact that we live in a democracy, not a dictatorship, but also that God is the one in charge forever!
