God is like... duck tape

Decided that I want to start a blogging series called God is like... _________. The first will be duck tape :) And if you have ideas for others, let me know!

God is like duck tape.

When you are using something (for this example I will use a baseball bat) and it breaks, duck tape is a typical  thing to turn to. The baseball bat is taped back together and used, trusting that the duck tape will hold it together. Before it was ever broken, there was no thought that it might break.

Our lives are like that baseball bat. When we have it all together, we often don't ever think about the possibility that we might break. But once we break, we need something to fix us. When God fixes us, and puts us back together, we are trusting Him to keep us together.

Only once we are broken do we realize that we need someone to hold us together. God is the only one that can. That's why there is beauty in brokenness. It's not the break that is beautiful, it is the trust that is required for God to hold us together. He is the duck tape to fix our broken lives :)

What should the next post in this series be?

  1. Great post!

It got me thinking... This doesn't really fit with your baseball bat example, but, often, we run to God when we break. Then, we realize that we were never really whole before. That's one of the many beautiful things about His grace. Ah! He's so awesome!

Long comment... Sorry. I couldn't help it. :)

I'll let you know if I have any ideas. :)
